Black Parents' ⁄ Caregivers' Experience

Black Parents’⁄Caregivers’ Experience is an interactive and stimulating town hall session. It is designed to provide parents and caregivers of Black children, the opportunity to discuss their experiences within the Canadian education system, and to generate solutions. Discussions will address the following:

  • School: What do parents/caregivers want members of education systems to know about the gifts and challenges of Black learners?
  • Community: What programs should the community offer to sustain and serve Black learners and parents/caregivers?
  • Home: How can parents/caregivers engage and have a voice within education systems, to advance the success of their Black learners?

Join Education Task Force Members:

  • Eleanor Mcintosh, Principal, Durham DSB,
  • Michelle Hughes, Recruitment & Communication Coordinator, Schulich School of Business,
  • Nicola Harris, Senior Program Analyst Ontario Association of Children’s Aid Societies,
  • Paul Green, Educator Toronto DSB, and
  • Rachel Ross, Culturally Relevant Pedagogy Specialist, Halifax Regional Centre of Education, NS

To continue an interactive and national discussion on how we ensure that Black students achieve greater academic success from K-12 so that we can see improved overall outcomes.
